Parker Hinson, a first year PhD student in the BSCH Department, is spending his summer directing the Medicine & Healthcare Program for the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) in San Francisco, CA at UC-Berkeley. The NSLC provides a select group of outstanding high school students with interactive sessions focused on developing leadership skills, exploring future career aspirations and the opportunity to meet with renowned leaders in their field of interest.

Last year, Parker worked at the NSLC as a Teaching Assistant and though he didn’t experience NSLC as a student, it reaffirmed his decision to pursue Public Health in his own academic and professional pursuits. Parker is excited to put his own “spin” on the program this year as the Program Director by engaging students in more public health relevant activities, such as creating public health service announcements.

In addition, Parker has coordinated an exciting schedule for the students which will expose them to various health careers. Students will meet professionals in various health fields, engage in scientific activities, and of course, explore San Francisco through stimulating field trips.“I am really excited to be part of such an amazing organization and I look forward to educating students about medicine and healthcare, “ said Parker.
