New Program Director of the Bachelors of Health Science Program
Dr. Michael Moorhouse recently accepted the position of Clinical Assistant Professor and Program Director of the undergraduate Health Science Program. In addition to managing all daily operations of the undergraduate Health Science Program, Dr. Moorhouse will continue to serve as a faculty member in the BSCH Department.
Dr. Moorhouse, a lifelong Gator, began his journey at the University of Florida in 1996 as an undergraduate student in the Bachelor’s of Health Science (BHS) Program. After later completing a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and working as an Addictions Counselor for the Alachua County Court Services Program, he returned to UF’s College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) to complete a two-year Post-doctorate in the Department of Behavioral Science and Community Health (BSCH).
Since joining the department and college, Dr. Moorhouse has been very active in his teaching, research, and commitment to service. He has taught several undergraduate courses in the Pre-public health track of the BHS Program and it isn’t unlikely to hear students comment on how much they enjoyed his teaching. MPH Student, Madison Workman, commented on how much he enjoyed taking Dr. Moorhouse’s course, Substance Abuse.
Dr. Moorhouse always had a great attitude when teaching and his enthusiasm for the subject was evident. He enjoyed challenging us intellectually and looking at different perspectives on substance abuse. I looked forward to attending his class every week because his positive energy was contagious to all who had the privilege of having him as their professor.
Dr. Moorhouse is also a member of several departmental and college committees and served as the Social and Behavioral Science MPH coordinator. As a lifelong gator and three time student veteran of the College of PHHP, Dr. Moorhouse has great insight into the BHS program, making him an ideal candidate for Program Director.
In recognition of his accomplishments, he was recently honored as a 2013 Outstanding Alumni in the College of PHHP.
Congratulations Dr. Moorhouse!
